Robert the Doll

The doll is said to be possessed by evil spirits, and has a terrifying reputation. He scares the living crap out of most who see him. Robert the Doll scared the bejesus out of Mr. Otto's wife. Given the doll in 1906 by a Bahamian servant who was skilled in black magic and voodoo and was displeased with the family. Soon afterward, it became clear that there was something eerie about the doll. Eugene's parents often heard him talking to the doll and that the doll spoke back.

From boyhood until his death and well beyond. Key West painter and author and artist Robert Eugene Otto. owned Robert the Doll. And the doll spent much time in the turret room of their Victorian Home in Key West, Florida. In addition, there guests claim to have seen Robert the dolls expression change before their eyes and he often blinked. In the night Eugene would scream, and when his parents ran to the room, they would find furniture knocked over and Eugene in bed, looking incredibly scared, telling them that "Robert did it!"

When Eugene died in 1974, the doll was left in the attic until the house was bought again. The new family included a ten-year old girl, who became Robert's new owner. It was not long before the girl began screaming out in the night, claiming that Robert moved about the room and even attempted to attack her on multiple occasions. More than thirty years later, she still tells interviewers that the doll was alive and wanted to kill her.

Now, Robert the Doll lives in a glass box in a museum in Key West, Florida, his native home. Strange activity in the museum supposedly increases. How creepy is this. The doll served as an inspiration for the Chucky doll.

Although Robert the doll stories of haunted dolls are as old as children's playthings, the story of Robert is notable due to the number of people who claim to have witnessed the evil doll at work or who claim to have been victimized by him in one way or another. Reference: Hauted America Tours

Joliet The Doll

was passed on from generation to generation to expecting mothers. Each mother was cursed with having two children - a boy and a girl respectively. The son isn't expected to live long; each boy lives to be about three days old before succumbing to unknown circumstances.

It is said that the doll traps the souls of the boys within its body wherein they are expected to remain until Judgment Day. Legend has it that it began when a woman received the doll as a pregnancy gift from a friend. This friend despised her for some unknown reason, and it's believed that she placed a curse on the doll out of jealousy. Three days after her son was born, he was stricken with a malady and died. Sometime after the death of her son, she heard crying that seemed to be emitting from Joliet the doll. Upon closer inspection, she concluded that her son's soul was imprisoned within the doll. Since then, those who have inherited the doll treat Joliet as if the doll was their son, never attempting to dispose of it.
